A glass studio is an amazing space! A place where people come together to create one a kind pieces at 2,300 degrees. In all glass studios you will find basically the same three pieces of equipment that run and operate it. A furnace for melting the glass. A “gloyhole” for reheathing the glass, and an annealor for bringing the piece down to room temperature over 12-24hrs
What I do in the hotshop is called hot sculpting. What that means is I sculpt the glass free hand while its 2,300 degrees. I use a variety of hand tools to help me manipulate the glass into the desired forms. Of course none of this could be done without the help of a great team. I’ve gotten very lucky in my career to have always been surrounded by the best artist and friends in the field. All of my work is done without the use of molds. So each piece is truly unique and one of a kind.
